Beautiful Love Instructions:

·       Create new score

o    Choose piano staff

o    Jazz Reprise font

o    Tempo Text will be Medium Swing 160

o    Add pick up of one bar

o    Key signature is F

o    Title: Beautiful Love

o    Composer: V. Young, W. King & E Van Alstyne + your name

o    Lyrics by Haven Gillespie (keep in same line as composer as shown in class)

o    Copyright 1931, 1959 Movietone Music Corp NY, NY

·       Delete any extra bars 20 bars + 1 pickup bar

·       Hide Piano name (under appearance select Inst. Names to none for all sections)

·       Delete brackets

·       Auto break every 4 bars

o    Go to layout>>break>>system break every 4 bars

Note:  make sure the box is checked by: ‘if exceeded due to…’

·       First 5 bars keep together (pickup bar plus first 4 bars)

o    Select first 5 bars

o    Go to layout>>format>>keep bars together 

Note: If layout was not done correctly you might need to use Make into system (Shift-Opt-M)

·       Create start repeat, end repeat

o    Select bar for start or repeat

o    Go to Notations>>Barline>>start repeat

o    Do the same for the end repeat

·       Create Repeat Lines

o    Select bar for repeat line and press (L) extend as needed

·       Input chords and rhythm slashes

o    Select bass clef create D quarter notes (as done in class)

o    Select bar--Shift-opt-3 will create rhythmic slashes-copy/paste in score

o    Repeat bar is under jazz articulations on keypad

o    Click on the first bar and press Command K to input chords as done previously

·       Input melody

·       Input lyrics Command L

o    Select first note on treble staff to start lyrics (select bar if no rest is before it)

o    Space bar to next lyric, hyphen (-) to break up a word

o    Space bar then press (-) hyphen to extend the line on a word (bar 3 ‘mystery____)

·       Create accompaniment chords as done with the Blue Monk exercise

·       Select bass stave (all) go to Text>>plug ins>>select realize chord symbols

·       Select piano left hand only and select chord every symbol from chord style

·       Select treble stave (all) go to layout and then select hide empty staves from menu

·       Next select grand staff  (all) then select focus on staves

·       Change the playback to regular swing

o    Go to play>>performance>>choose regular swing

·       Proof read the entire score to make sure it is accurate

·       Due: End of class (place in D2L drop box)

Extra:

·       If pick up bar is forgotten at the beginning go to Notations > time signature > more options > select pick-up bar > select pick-up beat (click on the extra meter and delete)

·       Collisions > go to view > uncheck collisions
